IPL:
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, or photofacial, is a light based treatment to improve the color of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. IPL may help if you have red, brown, or splotchy skin. Unlike lasers, an IPL device sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. It can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time. IPL treatments can make you look younger because they remove/improve the color of the skin and remove blotchiness. Sometimes some improvement in texture is also seen. The treatments are a short in office procedure with little to no down time. Like all light based treatments, this should not be done when the skin is tanned.
1540 Erbium Fractional Laser:
This is a fractional resurfacing laser. The laser drills tiny holes into the skin, which stimulate the development of collagen. The laser will improve wrinkles, skin thickness, and pigmentation. It is an in office procedure with some down time. Most people will be red for a day and swollen for up to 5 days. This is a non-ablative treatment, so no skin weeping or crusting is noted.
1064 Vascular Laser:
This laser targets capillaries and red spots. Many people develop red spots on their skin as they age (capillary hemangioma). This laser effectively treats the capillaries in the skin to make the red spot go away. The laser wavelength is most highly absorbed by red pigments, so the blood in the capillary increases in temperature and strips off the non-stick coating inside the capillary itself. This lets the vessel close off. Many people also look for treatment of spider veins on the legs. This laser is also effective in reducing spider veins. Spider vein treatments do require several sessions.
